Dover Area School District Annouces First Distinguished Alumni
The Dover Area School District is PROUD to announce its first-ever Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient: Mr. Brad Jacobs, Class of 1962. Mr. Jacobs was nominated by his son, Michael. Mr. Jacobs grew up in Dover Borough. He graduated from the Dover Area School District and attended York Junior College. Following college, Brad was a PA Army National Guard member, graduated from PA Officer Candidate School in 1968, and served as Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of Headquarters Company 3rd Bn 103rd Armor, York, PA.
Mr. Jacobs has served his local community as Secretary, West Manchester Twp. Authority for 13 years; West Manchester Twp. Supervisor for ten years and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for seven years. He was elected York County Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans’ Court in 2000 and re-elected in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016. Additionally, Brad served as President of The Registers/Clerks Association of Pennsylvania 2004/2005. He served on the Pennsylvania State Association of Elected County Officials (PSAECO) Board and chaired the Legislative Committee Board. Mr. Jacobs was the longest-serving York County Register/Clerk since 1839.
Before being elected Register/Clerk, Brad served in Governor Ridge’s Administration as Division Chief of the Bureau of Real Estate, Department of General Services, overseeing 10 million square feet of leased office space for agencies, boards, and commissions under the Office of the Governor.
Mr. Jacobs held membership and served on boards of local community service organizations, including Friends of Dover Community Library (Co-chaired Capital Campaign), York Co. Library System Board of Directors, and Treasurer of York Co. Leave a Legacy Board. He is also active in his church, Shiloh UCC, and was an Elder, Deacon, and past president. From 1987 through 1993, Mr. Jacobs served as the General Chairman of Futures and Nike Professional Golf Tournaments. He currently serves as the President of the Stonegate Village Condominium Association Board of Directors.
He is a fifty-year member of the Zeredatha-White Rose Lodge #451, a 32nd-degree member of the Valley of Harrisburg Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars Forest #30, and a former 20-year member of the Rotary Club of York (Paul Harris Fellow), Shiloh American Legion, Hawks Club, Viking Athletic Club, Life Member and Board of Director York County Agricultural Society (York State Fair), and Life Member Penn State Alumni Association. Brad is the General Chairman of the Dover High School Alumni Veterans Memorial Committee. Jacobs also serves as his high school class president, a Dover Alumni Association member, and a member of the Dover Eagle Foundation.
Finally, Mr. Brad Jacobs is the definition of a selfless servant leader. As demonstrated through his numerous community and civic engagements, no one values service above himself more than Brad. He has received a plethora of awards, including the York County Amateur Golf Association Man of the Year (1988), PSAECO Virgil F. Puskarich Award (2019) for Knowledge of County Government, Ability to Solve Problems, Maintaining the Highest Ethical and Moral Standards and Continued Commitment to Improving County Government.
Mr. Jacobs currently resides in West Manchester Township with his wife, Sue. The couple have a son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Kim, and two grandsons, Aidan and Ethan.
The Dover Area School District Distinguished Alumni program intends to recognize alumni who have excelled in their professions and are outstanding role models for DASD students. Distinguished Alumni are selected by a committee of district officials, teachers, Dover Eagle Foundation representatives, and alumni based on the criteria included in the link below.
