Dover Area High School DECA Attends Pennsylvania DECA Career Development Conference

Dover, Pennsylvania – Members of the Dover chapter of Pennsylvania DECA joined 2,600 high school business, finance, hospitality, and marketing students at the annual association career development conference held February 22-24, 2023, at Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The following students received recognition for individual ability and achievement at the association level:

Madalyn Smyser and Isabella McClucas earned 1st place in the Community Giving Project against 20 other projects in PA DECA.  The girls successfully implemented the project management process to plan events in our Dover schools and community, raising $12,421.92 for Ryan’s Hope- fighting childhood brain cancer.  Their project included a formal paper and presentation.  In addition, Dover DECA was recognized as the “Helping Hands Award” winner for contributing the most to a charity in PA DECA this year. 

Ankhet-Nu Whyte earned 3rd place in Integrated Marketing Campaign- Service against 22 other projects in PA DECA.  Ankhet created a marketing campaign called “Heart of the Home Pros” where she combined her love for interior design and interest in business with creating a campaign designed to use various marketing communication tools to reach customers.

In addition to the competitive awards listed above, Dover was recognized for our DECA, Inc. Chapter Campaign awards, as a PA DECA top tier chapter, and for SBE Gold-level Re-certification for The Red Zone School Store.

These students will advance to international competition at the DECA International Career Development Conference that will be held April 22-25, 2023, in Orlando, Fl. 
As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management, administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school. Business professionals evaluated the members’ performance through role-plays, case studies, and prepared presentations.
