Weather Days Clarification

As we approach the winter months and the potential for inclement weather, we would like to clarify weather days:

Traditional Snow Days will be called on those days when a sudden storm overnight causes the road conditions to be unsafe for travel. In other words, traditional snow days will be called when the district has no time to prepare in advance. When traditional snow days are used, the school days will be made up later. The 2022-2023 Dover Area School District calendar has two makeup days built into the calendar after January 1, 2023. Those dates are February 20 and March 20. If those dates are exhausted, any additional makeup days will be added to the end of the school year.

Remote Learning Days will be announced when inclement weather is known in advance. This means remote learning days will only be called when the district has had time to prepare and communicate with students, families, and staff. Remote Learning Days will require all students to complete work on their iPads; therefore, the iPads will be sent home before the Remote Learning Day.

Many factors go into making decisions regarding traditional snow days and remote learning days, including recent and upcoming holidays and other days off. The decisions are made with an emphasis on safety and maximizing instructional time for students. We provide this information as a guideline but not a guarantee of a traditional snow day or a remote learning day. The district will communicate by sending voice calls, emails, and posts on the district’s website, TV stations, and FaceBook as soon as possible as to what to expect. Expect a regular day if you do not hear or see anything.
