National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a well-renowned organization that middle school students promote academic excellence, behavioral superiority, and thoughtful service to their community. The five pillars of NJHS include scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Members of NJHS qualify for this prestigious membership at Dover Area Middle School by obtaining a 93% or higher cumulative GPA in all of their seventh-grade classes. Once recognized as a potential qualifier, students are invited to apply for NJHS membership following the first marking period of their eight grade career. The Dover Area Middle School NJHS faculty panel reviews applications and credentials of qualifying members and induct NJHS members annually.
NJHS students must consistently maintain a 90% or higher in all of their classes after obtaining membership. In addition to maintaining a solid academic performance, NJHS members must exhibit exemplary behavior in and outside the classroom, as well as complete a select number of service hours before the end of their 8th-grade tenure. Failure to uphold these expectations results in membership termination.
