Bullying/Harassment/Social Emotional Learning
Dover Area School District is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all of our learners. Much time is spent in education discussing the academic standards that must be achieved, and while critical, we also believe that teaching and nurturing the growth of social and emotional skills in our students is essential. All buildings in the Dover Area School District focus intentional programming, strategies, and resources on teaching and promoting the following skills:
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Decision Making
The development of these skills has been proven to enhance students’ resilience, reduce problem behaviors, reduce bullying, improve academics, and promote career readiness. According to CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning), 92% of surveyed executives say skills such as problem-solving and communicating clearly are equal to or more important than technical skills.
Dover Area School District has incorporated the following programs and resources to guide our efforts and build the skills necessary to create a collaborative and safe environment for all of our students: DESSA, Satchel Pulse, Responsive Classroom, Sanford Harmony, & Habitudes. If you are interested in learning more about any of these programs, the links are available below. We are fully committed to this goal, and for students who violate the expectations by participating in hurtful, harmful, harassing, or bullying behavior, our code of conduct outlines reparative and disciplinary actions that will be followed.
We will need the community to assist us in building this culture. We rely on our students, families, and community to help us identify students in need. If you have a concern for a student who is being mistreated, bullied, or harassed, please reach out to the statewide reporting center, Safe2Say, at 1-844-723-2729.
