2017 Critical Incident Response Exercise (CIRE)

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, the Dover Area School District, in conjunction with the External LinkNorthern York County Regional Police Department and other public safety entities, will be conducting a Critical Incident Response Exercise (CIRE) at North Salem Elementary School. The purpose of a CIRE is to take the district’s written Emergency Operations Plan and put the plan into action with our public safety partners. The district will gain knowledge and experiences from public safety during an emergency while our public safety partners will gain better knowledge of the district procedures, building layouts, and security systems.

While the CIRE will transpire at North Salem Elementary, students and staff will be evacuated to the Dover Area Intermediate School for family reunification. During the day of the exercise, all buildings in the district not directly involved with the exercise will be placed on lockout for a short period of time to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Everyone involved should anticipate the lockout to last approximately 30-60 minutes. A lockout means that no one will be permitted in or out of the building, but all learning and other activities will continue in the building as normal until the lockout is lifted.

Pertinent information to keep in mind on Thursday, May 11, 2017:

  • All communication directly related to the exercise will state that the message is part of the drill/exercise.
  • We ask parents and guardians to answer their phones the day of the exercise if a message comes from the district and not to assume that a message from the district is merely CIRE related.
  • We respectfully ask parents to be understanding that if a school is in lockout, it is for the safety and security of all of our students and staff and no one will be permitted in or out of the building during the lockout.

More information will be provided as we draw closer to the drill date. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding as this is an incredible learning opportunity for all involved.
